All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::NOT LISTED Dyels Jr., Jake Marion Jake Marion Dyels Jr. March 6, 1934 - June 12, 2006 Resident of Brentwood Jake Marion Dyels, Jr. ("Bub"), retired Senior U.S. Foreign Service Officer, was reunited with God on June 12, 2006. At the time of his passing, Jake resided in Brentwood, California with his wife of 50 years, W. Joanne Ellison Dyels of Richmond. Born March 6, 1934 in Beggs, Oklahoma, Jake was the son of the late Marion Lee Dyels and Jake Marion Dyels, Sr. He graduated from Berkeley High School in 1952 and went on to earn a BA in International Relations from San Francisco State University and an MPA from the University of Oklahoma. He also earned a Trade Union Certification from the Harvard School of Business and a Public Administration Certification from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts. Jake was the first African American firefighter with the Richmond Fire Department. Jake transitioned to the Peace Corps and moved his family overseas to Cartagena, Colombia. For the next 30+ years, Jake's distinguished career in the Foreign Service placed him in key diplomatic roles in many countries including Colombia, Panama, Sri Lanka, The Netherlands, and Mexico. He retired from the Foreign Service in January 1997. Preceding him in death were his parents, Jake M. Dyels Sr. and Marion Hart Dyels; and his sisters, Sylvia and Shirley Dyels. Jake is survived by his wife, Joanne; his daughters, Jocelyn Dyels Fuller of Antioch, CA, Karen Ann Dyels of Charlotte, NC, and Janice Dyels Strong of Palo Alto, CA; his son, Kevin Richard Dyels of Silver Spring, MD; his grandchildren, April, Ryan, Jasmine, Joy, Ronald, Ashley, Jonathan, Vanessa and Brandon; and his beautiful great-grandchildren, twins Kyan and Kyree. He also leaves behind sisters, Doris Jean Dyels Ferguson, Sandra D. Newton, Sharon D. Turner, Sheryle L. Griffin and Jean M. Martin; brother, James M. Dyels; his aunt, Marguerite Hart; and an host of loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Funeral services will be held at Immaculate Heart of Mary Church, 500 Fairview Ave., Brentwood, CA, on June 16, 2006 at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be sent to the American Cancer Society in the name of Jake M.
