"Gene" Couch Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Thursday in Second Baptist Church with Dr. Charley Jones officiating. Burial will be in Llano Cemetery with military rites by DAV Chapter 26. Arrangements are by Schooler-Gordon Funeral Directors, 5400 S. Bell St. Mr. Couch was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Beggs, Okla. He came to Amarillo in 1971 from Alpine. He married Mary Hill on Aug. 30, 1968, in San Angelo. He graduated from East Mountain High School in Longview. He received his bachelor of science and master of science from Texas Tech University. He was a member of Second Baptist Church. He served in the Army and was a veteran of World War II, serving at Omaha Beach in Normandy, France, where he was a Purple Heart recipient. He was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Donna DeAun Haef. Survivors include his wife; a stepson, Clifton Bruce of Bastrop; five stepgrandchildren; and 13 step great-grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to BSA Hospice. Amarillo Globe-News, April 10, 2002
