Funeral: 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at First United Methodist Church in Arlington. Burial: Moore Memorial Gardens in Arlington. Visitation: 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Arlington Funeral Home. Memorials: First United Methodist Church, 313 N. Center St., Arlington, Texas 76011. Charlie was born March 12, 1921, in Morris, Okla., to Hazel Rebecca and Charles Arthur James. The family moved to Texas in 1923 and settled in the community of Clara. He graduated from Clara High School in 1938, attended Hardin Junior College and later received his BS degree in business administration from East Texas State Teachers College. Charlie was a veteran of World War II, serving as an officer aboard the USS Dauphin, APA97, in the Pacific Fleet. Following his discharge, he married Hazel Cypert and worked 40 years for Gifford Hill American Inc., retiring in 1986 as vice president, secretary- treasurer. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church and Kiwanis Club of Arlington. Charlie loved to play golf as a member of Rolling Hills Country Club, Mid-Cities Senior Golf Association and Arlington Men's Senior Golf Association, as well as hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by both parents and his brother, Billie B. James. Survivors: Wife of 58 years, Hazel; sisters, Bonnie Lee Garrett and Rose Marie Carr; daughter, Sharon Lee Stewart; son, Larry Allen James and wife, Gwen; granddaughters, Jenny Stewart and Charlene "Charli" Stewart; grandsons, Michael Godfrey and wife, Julie, and Andy Clark and wife, Pam; great-grandsons, Cody and Kyle; and great- granddaughters, Maci Lynn and Kyndal Lee.
