He was born on Wednesday, May 11, 1921 in Clarksburg, West Virginia. He was the oldest son of Earnest and Norma (Flint) Jeffries and grew up in Beggs, Oklahoma. Survivors include: his devoted wife and best friend, Opal; one son: Robert and wife, Tera Sue of Sugarland, TX; one sister: Helen Howell of Sulphur, OK;two grandsons: Donnie and Todd Jeffries of Lincoln, NE; one granddaughter: Mandy Cancino of Stafford, TX; four great grandchildren. Lynn and Opal were married at Cisco, Texas on April 2, 1942. Lynn served with the 45th Division, E. Company, 2nd Battalion, 179th Regimental Combat Team from 1940 to 1945. He received the Bronze Star, Combat Infantryman’s Badge and was awarded the Qua D’Guere by the Nation of France. He was wounded twice in combat and participated in six major battles, including Anzio and Serlerno. The 45th Division recorded 511 days of combat during World War II. Lynn and Opal moved to Okmulgee following WWII. He was employed by Knapp Outdoor Advertising as a commercial artist/painter and later went into the outdoor advertising business for himself. Following his self-employment, he was employed with the Okmulgee School System and retired from Oklahoma State Tech. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church and served in several ministries through the years. He was a Scoutmaster of Troop 209 and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He served as Commander of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Post 1189, 1955/1956. He was preceded in death by his parents; youngest son, Fred Jeffries; two brothers: Jimmy and Edward Jeffries; three sisters: Mildred Lesher, Jean Guest and Marilyn Torix. Graveside services will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 23, 2005 at the Okmulgee Cemetery with Pastor Dal Newberry officiating. Burial will follow the service under the direction of the Shurden-Kelley Funeral Home of Okmulgee. The family requests in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to the 45th Infantry Division Museum 2145 N.E. 36th St. Oklahoma City, Oklahoma 73111.
