LOWSLEY, 55, PIONEER OF CITY, DIES AT HIS HOME Hurbert Ivan Lowsley, 55, pioneer Okmulgeean, died at his home, 915 East Nineth Street, at noon Monday. Mr. Lowsley had been in ill health for some time. Mr. Lowsley was born at Hampstead-Norreys, Berkshire, England and came to the United States in 1905. He came to Okmulgee in the same year and was associated in the oil and realestate business with Hugh Hillman of 319 North Inglis Avenue. Mr. Hillman and Mr. Lowsley were friends for many years in England and their families had been neighbors for years II II II Mr. Lowsley fought through the Boer war in South Africa from 1899 to 1902 and return to his home in England at the end of the war. At one time during the war he related, his life was saved by a fire in the English camp. A Boer sniper had killed the two men who preceded Mr. Lowsley on a sentry post. When he took the post he saw the Boer between him and the fire and captured him. In rural England the land is divided into manors and Mr. Lowsley's father was what is known as a "lord of the manor." The title is not of the nobility but is a honorary distinction accorded the head of the family that lives in the manor house. The custom dates from Saxon times in England. II II II Mr. Lowsley's family lived in Berkshire, England, for years and he was the only member to come to America. The family home is about 50 miles from London near the market town of Newberry. Mr. and Mrs. Lowsley were married in San Antonio, Texas, where Mrs. Lowsley had gone to visit her sisters. Mrs. Lowsley is also English, having known Mr. Lowsley when he lived in England. Mrs. Lowsley is related to Frank Wentworth, English poet. Several year ago Mr. Lowsley established a general repair shop here and he operated this business at the time of his death. LOWSLEY, 55, PIONEER OF CITY DIES AT HIS HOME Continued from Page One) and widely known in Okmulgee and vicinity II II II He is survived by his wife, two daughter Madeline and Catherine and a son Ivan H., all of the home address; four brothers, Dr. Lionell Lowsley of Bratton-On-Sea, England: Dr. Montague Lowsley of Brandwick, England; the Rev. Warren Lowsley of Hampstead-Norreys, Berkshire, England, and Conrad Lowsley of Berkshire, England; and a sister, Miss Ella Lowsley of London, England. Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Church of the Redeemer, Episcopal with Robert E. Lee in charge. Burial will be in Okmulgee cemetery under direction of the Davis Funeral home. The body will lie in state at the funeral home until the services, it was said last night.
