He was born November 22, 1921 in Howe, Oklahoma to Rosa and James Vaughn. He was married to Hazel Virginia Vaughn at Howe, Oklahoma on August 16, l941. Their 61 year union was blessed with 11 children, 28 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren. He was retired from the City of Henryetta in 1986 after serving as the Public Works Director for 30 years. He was a Sergeant serving in the U.S. Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by an infant son, Tony Joe Vaughn, his parents James & Rosa Vaughn, a granddaughter; brother, Buck Vaughn, and a sister, Montess Huckabay. Survived by his wife Hazel Virginia Vaughn, of the home; 3 daughters, Carolyn Peavler and husband Joe, Henryetta; Beth Winn and husband Kenneth, Henryetta; Anna Williams and husband Hank, Henryetta; 7 Sons, Charles Vaughn & wife Pat of Dustin; Ernest Vaughn and wife Linda, Roland, Oklahoma; Glen Vaughn & wife Debbie, Hoffman; Jerry Vaughn and wife Lynn, Henryetta; Howard Vaughn and wife Cheri, Weleetka; Roger Vaughn, of the home; David Vaughn and wife Diane, Henryetta; 1 brother, Percy Vaughn and wife Fern, Newton, Kansas: 28 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, 3 Sisters in law, a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and other relatives. Pallbearers will be Charles Vaughn, Ernest Vaughn, Glen Vaughn, Jerry Vaughn, Howard Vaughn, Roger Vaughn, and David Vaughn. Services will be held Friday; December 6, 2002 at 2:00 pm at Salem Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Dale Huckabay. Burial will be at New Sonora Cemetery under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.
