She was born March 7, 1922 in LeFlore County, Oklahoma to Ernest and Elizabeth Burt. She was married to Glen Basil Vaughn at Howe, Oklahoma on August 16, 1941. Hazel was a member of Salem Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Basil Vaughn, one infant son, Tony Joe Vaughn, her parents, Ernest and Elizabeth Burt, granddaughter Teresa Griffith, two brothers, Howard Burt, and Charlie Burt; two sisters in law and three brothers in law. Survivors include seven sons and three daughters, Charles Vaughn & wife Pat, Dustin; Ernest Vaughn of Muldrow, Carolyn Peavler and husband Joe, Henryetta; Beth Winn and husband Kenneth, Wilson; Anna Williams and husband Hank, Weleetka, Glen Vaughn and wife Debbie, Hoffman; Jerry Vaughn and wife Lynn, Henryetta; Howard Vaughn and wife Cheri, Weleetka; Roger Vaughn, Henryetta, David Vaughn, Henryetta; one sister, Mary Moore, Dixon, California, 23 grandchildren, and 21 great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and other relatives. Pallbearers were Charles Vaughn, Ernest Vaughn, Glen Vaughn, Jerry Vaughn, Howard Vaughn, Roger Vaughn, David Vaughn, and Alvin Foster. Services were held Tuesday, March 2, at 2:00 p.m. at Salem Baptist Church officiated by Rev. Dale Huckabay assisted by Rev. Terry Pitman. Burial was at New Sonora Cemetery under the direction of Shurden Funeral Home.
