Mr. Walston was born in Nuyaka, Oklahoma on June 26, 1926, the son of Willie and Thelma [Arbuckle] Walson. He attended school in Nuyaka and was a long-time resident of Okmulgee. He was a faithful member of Osage Avenue Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon. Mr. Walston worked as a Custodian at Dunbar High School and also was a Bricklayer in the Construction Industry. He was better known as the produce man on West 8th Street, where he provided vegetables and fruit that he grew in his garden. He could grow just about anything possible. He loved gardening, outdoors and especially fishing. He was an expert in noodling and fishing. He gave away as much fish and produce as he sold and will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Dorthy M. [Halliburton] Walston, 6 brothers and 4 sisters. Remaining to lament his passing; his sons, Dwen Walston, Jr., Ardmore, Oklahoma, Herbert Walston, Las Vegas, Nevada and Terry Walston, Okmulgee, Oklahoma; his daughters, Veronica [Timothy] Miller, Midwest City, Oklahoma and Juanita Walker, Phoenix, Arizona; a sister, Ivory Walston-White, Kansas City, Missouri; 6 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; and a caravan of other relatives and friends. The final hour with Mr. Walston will be held on Saturday, October 21, 2006 at 2:00 P.M. in the sanctuary of the First Christian Church, 211 West 8th Street. Reverend Charlie Green, the gracious host Pastor and Reverend Willie Antwine, Pastor of New Salem Baptist Church, the Officiant. The Christian Committal will follow in Okmulgee Cemetery. You may visit Mr. Walston, as he slumbers at the Keith D. Biglow Funeral Directors, Inc., of Okmulgee on Friday from 12 Noon to 6 PM.
