All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Memory Lane Cemetery--Harrah OK Wood, Robert Hafner Robert Hafner Wood, Harrah, Oklahoma, age 91, was born July 28, 1914, in Dewar, Oklahoma, and departed this life on August 8, 2005, in Shawnee, Oklahoma. Robert, the oldest of ten children, was the son of Rufus Hiram and Della Blanche (Hafner) Wood. He graduated high school in Preston, OK and attended college at Conner's State College at Warner, OK. Robert received his BS degree in Agriculture Education from Oklahoma A&M (OSU) where he was a member of the boxing team. Robert taught agriculture in Indiahoma and Geronimo. He joined the Indian Service and taught agriculture and coached at Zuni and Albuquerque, New Mexico; Jones Academy, Hartshorne, OK; and Riverside, Anadarko, OK. He then transferred to Oklahoma State Extension Services as Indian agent for the Cheyenne and Arapahoe Tribes working with Indian farmers and youth. He moved north of Harrah after retiring, and as his health declined he resided at the Harrah Nursing Center the last seven years. He was a member of the Epsilon Sigma Phi, National Honorary Extension Fraternity, Kiwanis and Harrah Lions Club, Oklahoma Teachers Retirement Association, Boy Scout Leader, distinguished citizen of Watonga, outstanding father of Nicoma Park 1988, and was an Elder of the Christian Church for 38 years. He served in the U.S. Navy during WW II. He married Ellen Watson on June 25, 1939, in Lawton, OK, and she preceded him death. Robert was also preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers and 4 sisters. Survivors include: 1 Daughter & Son-in-law: Doris & Ron Smithee, Harrah; 1 Brother: Woodrow Wilson Wood, Aurora, IL; 1 Sister: Betty Blume, Wichita, KS; 3 Grandchildren, their Spouses and Children: Derek & Lauri Smithee, Edmond, Kirk & Traci Smithee, Springboro, PA, Jerry Hartman, NY, Nickalas Smithee, CA, Cameron Smithee, PA, Dayna & Lance Duke, Edmond, Dillon Duke, Edmond, Lana Duke, Edmond, many nieces, nephews, students and friends. Memorials may be made to: Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma, Jones Academy Scholarship Fund, HCR 74, Box 102-5, Hartshorne, OK 74547. Services will be held 2:00 P.M. Thursday, August 11, 2005, at the Harrah First Baptist Church with Dr. Tony Nickel officiating, with interment to follow at Memory Lane Cemetery, Harrah, Oklahoma.
