All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Marguerite Helen Jones Akst Marguerite Helen Jones Akst, 81, of Amarillo, formerly of Pampa, died Monday, Sept. 29, 2003. Prayer services will be at 7 p.m. today in Schooler Funeral Home Brentwood Chapel, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mass will be at 10 a.m. Thursday in St. Mary's Catholic Church with Monsignor Harold Waldow officiating. Burial will be at 2 p.m. in Fairview Cemetery in Pampa. Mrs. Akst was born in Oklahoma and moved to Pampa in 1929. She was a 1937 graduate of Pampa High School and a graduate of Draughon's Business College in Edmond, Okla. She and her former husband, Irving B. Akst, owned Merry Melodies, a downtown Pampa music store, in the early 1950s. Mrs. Akst was the registrar for Pampa Junior High School and "was in charge" of Cabot Credit Union. She was also a bookkeeper for many years for Lewis Jones Construction, and Idos Corp., a scientific services and consulting company they founded in the late 1970s. She was an active member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church in Pampa, and later a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Amarillo. She was an active volunteer serving as president of St. Vincent's altar society, a driver for Meals on Wheels and many other organizations. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lewis and Marguerite Jones of Pampa, and two brothers, Lewis Jones Jr. of Pampa and Jack L. Jones of Springer, N.M. Survivors include four daughters, Carol Mathews of Lee's Summit, Mo., Cherie Clifton and Teresa Railsback, both of Amarillo, and Janet Martin of Cedar Park; two sons, Adam Akst of Cedar Park and Jason Akst of Sycamore, Ill.; a sister, Ursula Kennedy of Austin; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
