She was 82 and had been battling the debilitating effects of a stroke she suffered four years ago, her friends said. Aleshin had spent more than 30 years in Sonoma County, 20 at Oakmont and 12 at Spring Lake Village, both in Santa Rosa. She had a large group of devoted friends in both places, said Dorothy Young, who knew her for 12 years. Born in Oklahoma, Aleshin was an only child and lived most of her youth and young adulthood in Italy. When World War II broke out, her father decided it was time for the family to leave, Young said. They lived in various parts of California, including San Francisco. "She met her husband on the day of the opening of the Golden Gate Bridge," Young said. The couple were married a few months after their 1937 meeting. An active person, Aleshin served on many boards and for several years was office manager at Bank of America in San Francisco, her friends said. She and her husband Victor Aleshin used to entertain often. Though they had no children, they regularly invited young students and friends to their home, Young said. In Santa Rosa, Aleshin belonged to the Welfare League, the Saturday Afternoon Club and the Symphony League. Before she died, Aleshin asked that her body be donated to the San Francisco Medical Center for scientific research. Her final act, Young said, was an example of the kind of generosity she practiced her whole life. At Aleshin's request, no memorial service will be held. Memorial contributions can be made to the Welfare League, 126 Fourth Street, Santa Rosa, 95402. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Unknown County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/okstate.html
