He spent his final days surrounded by family and friends. Born on December 22, 1941, in Oklahoma, John moved to Fresno with his family where he lived out the rest of his life. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy aboard the Boxer, Navarro and Coral Sea during the Vietnam Conflict. In the Navy, he learned his trade as a machinist. John was the proud owner and operator of Acme Machine Co. In his free time, John was an avid fan and supporter of Fresno State Baseball and for over 20 years he and his wife Starling played with the Herndon Hermits Coed Softball Team. Through both baseball and softball, John added many friends to his "extended family". John is survived by his loving wife Starling; son Travis; sisters Carol, Earlene and Jacque; and bro- thers Kenneth, Frank and Bobby, and their families. Friends and family will remember John in a private celebration of his life on Sunday, July 16, 2006. In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations in John's name be made to the Gardner Jones Step to the Plate Foundation or the Ted Gavrilis Memorial Fund for Fresno State Baseball. Friends may contact the family for more information about the celebration.
