All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Bakersfield Californian Myrtle Brown Services: Friday, June 22, 3 p.m. Services will be held in Greenlawn Memorial Chapel, 3700 River Blvd., Friday, June 22 at 3 p.m. for Myrtle Brown, long time citizen of Kern County, who passed away June 16, 2001 at the Emmanuel San Joaquin Care Center where she had been a resident since October, 1995. Myrtle was born to Joel and Kate Quinton, September 9, 1901 in Oklahoma. She married Adison McCaslin in 1918 and moved to Bakersfield and five children were born to this marriage. Myrtle married Lloyd James Brown in December 1945, and lived in Lake Isabella until Brownie died in October 1995 and Myrtle moved to a full care center. Myrtle was devoted to her family, working hard during the depression to help family economics. She loved music and parties. Myrtle was always proud of her Indian heritage. She was a member of the Choctaw nation which still exists in Oklahoma. The town of Quinton, Oklahoma was named for her paternal grandmother Elizabeth Jacobs Quinton, who was known as Little Granny Quinton for her small size and wiry frame. Elizabeth was believed to be 116 years of age when she died. Myrtle is survived by a son, Dolen McCaslin of Cave Junction, Oregon; and a sister, Annabelle McDonald of Bakersfield. She had 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; numerous great great grandchildren. No visitation is scheduled.
