BYRN "Shorty" Clifford G. Byrn, Sr., also known as "Shorty", passed away on Wednesday, September 6, 2006, at the age of 95. He was born in Oklahoma and moved to California in 1950. He worked as a trailer maintenance mechanic for over 30 years for Fruehauf Equipment. He also worked as a mechanic for Dewey Bros. in Riverdale for over ten years. After his retirement, he enjoyed buying and selling used equipment, tools and implements at the sales yards and spending time with his beloved wife Lillie. Shorty was a man of character - his handshake was a promise that was always kept. He led a healthy and active life and made friends with anyone he met. He knew no strangers. Until August of this year, Shorty had only been hospitalized for one day his entire life. He wanted to die at home, in his own house, with dignity and grace. He passed away, as he wished, peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday night. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation to Dr. S.M. Rajpara, and the staff of Kaiser Permanente for their care and concern during Shorty's illness. A special thanks is extended to Mercedes Mendez and Yolanda Gonzalez for their love, kindness, care, and support shown for Shorty during these last few months. Shorty is survived by his loving wife, Lillie Michles Byrn of Riverdale; a son, Clifford Byrn, Jr., also of Riverdale; and numerous extended family members and friends. Visitation will be held at Wallin's Riverdale Funeral Home, 20760 S. Malsbary, Riverdale, CA on Sunday, September 10, 2006, from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. A Graveside Service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Laton on Monday, September 11, 2006, at 2:00 p.m. Remembrances may be made to Disabled American Veterans, 1235 "O" St. #108, Fresno, CA 93721 or donor's favorite charity.
