By the time she died in Santa Rosa last week at age 104, she'd witnessed almost a century of the city's history. She was a beloved member of Santa Rosa's First Presbyterian Church, which she joined in 1915. "She was a great inspiration for me," said longtime friend Marella Jenkins of Santa Rosa. "She was the best friend I ever had." A memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the church on Pacific Avenue. She was born in Rocky Canyon, Okla., but her family soon moved to Sonoma County, where they started a farm on Fulton Road. As a girl, she picked hops, harvested prunes and attended church in Fulton. She later married James Otto Campbell, who was an administrator at the county hospital. Together they were active in the Presbyterian Church and headed a program for Christian youth. Campbell also taught Sunday School and was one of the church's first female elders. After her husband died, she worked at Rosenberg's Department Store in Santa Rosa, where her sister ran the millinery department. After retirement, she enjoyed trips to the Holy Land and Presbyterian missions in Alaska. Friends remember her as a woman who remained vibrant and lovely even in her last years. "She always looked like she had stepped out of a bandbox," said a church friend. She is survived by two children, Dr. Willis P. Campbell and Dean Campbell, both of Santa Rosa; eight grandchildren; and 12 greatgrandchildren. Memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1550 Pacific Ave., Santa Rosa 95404. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Unknown County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/okstate.html
