Cornelius Services: Sat., Oct. 19, 11 a.m. Wade H. Cornelius, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great- grandfather, and gentleman, died on Wednesday, October 16, 2002, at his home in Bakersfield surrounded by those he loved. Wade was born in Glendale, Arizona, on December 4, 1920, and spent his boyhood in Oklahoma. His family settled in California in 1936. In 1938, at Point Conception, California, he first met his lifelong sweetheart, Violet Hillegeist. They were married in 1940 and their love affair has lasted nearly sixty-five years. For most of his life, Wade was involved in the construction business and he was the founder of C.A.P. Construction Company of Bakersfield. He took great pride in his work and he strived for perfection and quality in every aspect of his endeavors. Wade was known for his honesty and strong work ethic and he built an outstanding reputation throughout all of Kern County in his career as an independent cement contractor. He was always ready to lend a hand, always aware of the needs of others, always someone to depend upon. Of his many accomplishments, Wade would list the love and devotion of his family as the thing he was most proud of. He leaves behind his wife, and lifelong love, Violet; his daughter, Glenda and son-in-law, Leonard Findley; his son, Ron and daughter-in-law, Ann Cornelius; his beloved grandchildren, Tammy Knight, Traci (David) Warren, Shelley (Bob) Pietrusiak, Stacy (Danny) Monson and Trevor Findley; and five great- grandchildren whom he loved dearly. He and Violet are expecting their sixth great-grandchild and first great-great-grandchild in the spring. For ten long years, he fought a valiant battle with tremendous courage, determination and dignity. Emphysema may have weakened his body, but it could never weaken his strong spirit. The family would like to express their deep gratitude to Dr. Robert Laughlin and his staff. Wade had the utmost respect for Dr. Laughlin and the family is grateful for the wonderful care and support that was so important to helping Wade through this difficult time in his life. Graveside services will be held, Saturday, October 19, 2002, 11:00 a.m., at Greenlawn Southwest Mortuary, 2739 Panama Lane. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Unknown County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/okstate.html
