All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Gridley-Biggs Cemetery--Gridley CA Marysville Yuba City Appeal-Democrat October 2, 2001 Auston Caplinger Auston "Cap" Caplinger, 79, of Oroville died Sept. 29, 2001, at Oroville Regional Care Center. Born in Oklahoma, he was a longtime Oroville resident. He and his brother Richard Caplinger opened Caps Upholstery in Marysville before opening the same business in Oroville in 1949, where he remained in business and retired in 1992. He was a member of several service clubs including Kiwanis, Eagles and Elks and an original member of the Oroville Boat Club. In addition, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps as a captain and pilot, flying the B-17 bomber in Europe during World War II. Survivors includes his wife of 39 years, Melba Sheats Caplinger of Oroville; a daughter, Carol Wolfong of Yuba City; a stepdaughter, Paula Lantsberger La Rose of Berry Creek; two stepsons, Thomas Lantsberger and Dan Ledford, both of Oroville; and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Preston Caplinger and Richard Caplinger. Donations to the Oroville Kiwanis Children's Fund may be left at Gridley-Block Funeral Chapel in Gridley. Services: A graveside service will be conducted at 10 a.m. Thursday in Gridley-Biggs Cemetery.
