All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Hillcrest Cemetery--Bakersfield CA Chism, Bruce Maynard Services will be held on Tuesday, July 17th, 10:00 a.m., at North Heights Baptist Church, 3960 N. Chester for Bruce Maynard Chism, 84, of Bakersfield, CA, who passed away on Wednesday, July 11, 2007, following a lengthy illness. A graveside service will follow at Hillcrest, Sunrise Section, with a reception following at the Masonic Temple, 18th St., Bakersfield. Bruce was born in Oklahoma. The family moved to Paso Robles, CA where he was educated. In July 1941 he enlisted in the United States Navy and at the end of his six year term he accomplished: Aviation Machinist Mate First Class. He was awarded The American Defense Medal, The American Area Campaign Medal and A Good Conduct Medal. Bruce was well known in Kern and San Luis Obispo County. He was trained in watchmaking and jewelry by a Swiss watchmaker and he was the owner and operator of Chism's Jewelers and for his walk of integrity, dedication and countless hours of volunteer service to the Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital. He was a member of North Heights Baptist Church. He also was a member of Muedell Oildale Masonic Lodge #695 and became a Master Mason in 1965. He was presented with the Niram Award in 1992. He joined Scottish Rite and was Master of Kadosh in 1979. He has been Worthy Patron of Eastern Star seven times and was Grand Rep. of Nova Scotia in California. He was President of Kern County Shrine Club in 1992. Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, John and Helen Chism; three brothers, John, Chick and Dean Chism. He is survived by his wife of 64-1/2 years of marriage, C. Jane Chism; daughter, Sherri Zaragoza; one brother, Jim and Jo Chism of TN; three sisters, Arlene Freeman of NJ, Leta Phillips and Harold and Gail Hansen of Paso Robles. He is also survived by his grandchildren, great- grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to North Heights Baptist Church or Shriners Crippled Children's Hospital.
