All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== VIVIAN DAVIS Published on September 10, 1995 The Santa Rosa Press Democrat Vivian Frances Davis led an active life in her retirement years, volunteering at the Healdsburg Senior Center, working as a crossing guard and as member of the brown bag program for low-income seniors. "I worked for a good many years before I retired and I'm just not the type of person to sit at home and twiddle my thumbs and watch television. And besides, I enjoy doing it," she said in a 1992 "Doer's Profile" interview in The Press Democrat. Davis, 73, died Thursday after a long battle with leukemia. The mother of eight children, Davis was of Cherokee descent, born in Oklahoma. She lived in Sonoma County since the late 1940s when she moved to Cloverdale. In 1956, she moved to Healdsburg where she worked for Fairchild Semiconductors, retiring 20 years ago. She was married to Lionel Davis, who died in 1980. She was an accomplished craftsperson, doing everything from needlework to sewing, crocheting and bead work. Davis was also a member of the Senior Advisory Commission in Healdsburg and a member of the Christian Bible Church. She is survived by her children, Kay Idol of Vernon, Texas, Linda Sandell of Lubbock, Texas, Sue Urmann of Windsor, Judy Davis of Healdsburg, Kathy Rowe of Redding, Lynn Davis of Santa Rosa, Gordon Davis of Hopland, and Jan Davis of Healdsburg; brother, Norman Foster of Vinita, Okla.; 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Visitation will be at Fred Young & Co. in Healdsburg today from noon to 6 p.m. Graveside services will be at 9 a.m. Monday at Oak Mound Cemetery, Lawn Section, Healdsburg. Memorial donations are suggested to Home Hospice of Sonoma County, 1110 N.
