He was born in Oklahoma on April 16, 1937. John leaves behind his loving wife of 54 years, Pauline Davis; and his 8 children: Debbie and Ted Yarbrough and family, John Jr. and Jeannie Davis and family, Cindy and Craig Cornelson and family, Sandra Boak and family, Kenneth Davis and family, Christine and Richard Barry and family, Robbie and Bobbie Barry and family, Tammy and Toby Goucher and family; and many more family and friends. Dad moved to California as a young child and stayed in Humboldt County for the remainder of his life. He was a member of Operating Engineers Local Number 3. He worked in construction until he retired. He also belonged to the Northern California Houndsman Association. Dad, in his younger years, ran the best bear dogs in the county. Dad loved to hunt, fish, camp, garden and spend time with his family. We will always remember his love of cooking. He loved to make “special” dishes and convinced everyone to try it not knowing the ingredients. He always got a kick out of our reactions once he told us what was in it. Usually you would see everyone heading straight for the garbage can. He always had a good joke, gross but funny. We will miss his smell of chew and chew kisses, him yelling for P-A-U-L- I-E and his love for Monday night wrestling, old movies and cornbread. Dad and mom also loved traveling and going to flea markets. He lived his life for his family, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He loved to brag about the number of grandchildren (29) and great- grandchildren (35) that he had. Dad never met a stranger and was always there to help anyone. You can’t put into words how much he was loved and how he will be missed. In heaven he joins his parents, Tom and Marie Davis; his brother, Harold Davis; and granddaughter, Cheryl Lynn Yarbrough. PAP I am proud to call you my dad and grandpa. You instilled so many beliefs in your sons and daughters. These beliefs were then instilled in your grandchildren and great-grandchildren. When we look in the mirror, we see you. Because of you our hearts were whole and now they will remain forever half empty. Our large family and mom (MA) will be a constant reminder of your goodness. Your memories and love will never be forgotten. We will see you again in heaven. WE LOVE YOU and will miss you forever, give Cheryl a kiss for us. Your Loving Family- A service will be held at Greenwood Cemetery Friday May 4, 2007, at 2:30 PM. Please sign the guestbook at www.times-standard.com, click on obituaries.
