FRENCH MAY 8, 1942 - SEPT. 29, 2006 Ronald D. French, Sr., 64, of Stockton passed away at his home on Friday, September 29, 2006. He was born May 8, 1942 in King City, CA. Ronald grew up in Modesto and entered the U.S. Marines at the age of 15 and was asked to leave at 17 when he was found to be underage. He re-entered the Marines and served a total of 16 years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam where he was a Gunnery Sergeant. He left the Marines after an injury while working on an aircraft. Ron then began a career as an employment specialist at Alameda Naval Air Station retiring in the early 1990's. After retirement he moved to Oklahoma where he lived until moving to Stockton in 2004. Ronald was proud of his son who served in the military and granddaughter who is currently serving in Iraq. Survivors include his wife, Ruth French of Stockton; two sons, Ronald D. French, Jr. of Modesto and Richard D. French of Sacramento; five step sons, Ken Swanger of Woodland, Steven Swanger of Modesto, Tim Swanger of Fresno, Mike Wintch of Acampo and Steve Wintch of Stockton and a host of grandchildren and great grand children. He has three sisters, Sheila Lawlis and her husband, Alvin of Ceres, Sandra Elliott of Modesto and Brenda French of Corning; four brothers, R. Scott French of Las Vegas, NV, Bruce M. Smith, Jr. of LaVerkin, UT, Larry French and his wife Annie, and Gregory French; all of Corning. Graveside memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 5, 2006 at 3:OO p.m. at Cherokee Memorial Park. Cherokee Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
