April 19, 1 p.m. Visitation will be held 4-8 p.m. Friday, April 18, 2003 at Hillcrest Mortuary Chapel for Hulda Edna Ratzlaff Haag, 84, who passed away Monday, April 14, 2003. The 1 p.m. service Saturday, April 19, 2003 will be conducted by Pastor Roger Poppen of Laurelglen Bible Church. Edna was born to Jacob D. and Sarah F. (Duerksen) Ratzlaff June 1, 1918 in Oklahoma while her family was visiting relatives. She attended school in Kerman and Reedley and K.C.H.S. She married William James Haag, from a farming family in Rio Bravo, March 11, 1938 in Rosedale, CA. They were active members of the 1st Church of the Nazarene for 20 years then attended Heritage Mennonite Brethren Church. In 1978, they were among the charter families to plant what would later become Laurelglen Bible Church. They were also members and officers in the Bakersfield and California Associations for Retarded Citizens (BARC) and founders of study groups for exceptional children. Edna was working for the Pacific Telephone Employers Cafeteria during the time of the earthquakes in the fall of 1952 and later for the school food services at Bakersfield College and North High under Miss Valena. Due to illness, she was unable to finish high school with her class, so in the late 1960s, she, her husband, and daughter, Carol attended night classes and were awarded their diplomas in 1970. Edna was preceded in death by her husband, Bill of 59 years in 1997, her daughter, Carol in 1999, her parents, all her siblings and their spouses and a grandson, Andrew Southard. She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Southard, grandson Roger Southard and wife Sandi, granddaughter Katherine Southard and great-grandchildren Peter James, Ellieana Nicole, and Kayleia Southard and many nieces and nephews.
