All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Alvin James Hicks CLARENDON - Alvin James Hicks, 87, died Wednesday, Feb. 13, 2002. Services will be at 1 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery by Robertson Funeral Directors. Mr. Hicks was born Aug. 28, 1914, in Oklahoma and was a resident of Bonham before moving to Clarendon in 1930. He married Minnie Belle Spurgeon on July 27, 1935, in Clarendon. He later married Billie Ashcraft. He had worked for Gilvin and Terrell in road construction for 31 years before his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Clarendon. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of First Baptist Church. Casket bearers will be Mike Word, Bob Trout, Darrell Leffew, Jeff Walker, Jimmy Floyd and Montye Smith. He was preceded in death by his first wife, on Feb. 18, 1997. Survivors include two sons, Billy Mac Hicks of Amarillo and Rodney Hicks of Palestine; his wife, Billie; a stepdaughter, Fern Watts of Clarendon; a brother, Olace Hicks of Clarendon; six grandchildren; five great- grandchildren; and two stepgrandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to downtown ministry at First Baptist Church in Clarendon; or Baptist St. Anthony's Hospice in Amarillo. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today in First Baptist Church Fellowship Hall.
