Hicks March 31, 1925 — July 14, 2006 James Downey "J.D." Hicks, 81, of Patterson died Friday at Doctors Medical Center, Modesto. Mr. Hicks was a native of Oklahoma and lived in Patterson 75 years. He was co-founder and co-owner of H&M Trucking. Previously, he was a rancher in Vernalis. He served as an airplane mechanic in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a member of Masonic Lodge 488 and a San Francisco Giants fan. He supported the Apricot Fiesta. He is survived by his wife, Frances Hicks of Patterson; children, Carol Costa of Modesto and Jim Hicks of Coto de Caza; and two grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Visitation from 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday at Hillview Funeral Chapel, Patterson. A graveside service will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Patterson District Cemetery.
