All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Jim Helms WILDORADO - Jim Helms, 64, died Monday, April 8, 2002, in Amarillo. Services will be at 3 p.m. Friday in Central Church of Christ Chapel in Amarillo with Dick Marcear of Church of Christ at The Colonies officiating. Burial will be in Palo Duro Cemetery in Wildorado by Schooler Funeral Home of Amarillo, 4100 S. Georgia St. Mr. Helms was born in Oklahoma on May 13, 1937. He married Betty Stratton in Amarillo in 1958. He built and drove stock cars and worked his way up to sprint cars. He was a mechanic for High Plains Chevrolet prior to moving to Bushland, where he worked for Rocking B Farm Supply. He moved to Wildorado and founded Wildorado Irrigation and Supply. He opened Satellite World in Wildorado and then took over Papa Jim's Cafe. He was a member of Westside Church of Christ. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Helms, in February 1998. Survivors include four daughters, Glenda Scott and husband, Kim, and B.J. Black and husband, Ray, all of Wildorado, Jamie Johnson and husband, Mark, of Amarillo and Cindy Wright and husband, Rick, of Arkansas; a son, Dr. Hollis Helms and wife, Tammy, of San Antonio; a sister, Alice Bernardi of San Jose, Calif.; and 17 grandchildren. The family suggests memorials be to High Plains Children's Home, 11461 S. Western St., Amarillo, TX 79118. Visitation will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. today at the funeral home.
