Hynds, 81, will be held at 12 p.m., on Saturday, April 8, at Hillcrest Morutary. Ben was born on April 13, 1924, in Oklahoma to Benjamin and Mary Hynds. The Lord called him home on April 4, 2006 after an unexpected aneurysm. As a young man in his twenties Ben served in the United States Army. After serving his country, Ben was discharged in California. Ben later made his way to Bakersfield where he worked in the fields picking cotton. While working the cotton patch, Ben was captivated by a young woman whom he described as, "the prettiest thing he'd ever seen." This young woman, Dorothy, would later become his bride after a four-month courtship. Ben and Dorothy Hynds took pleasure in raising their two children, a son, and a daughter. They enjoyed forty-four wonderful years of marriage until Dorothy was taken from Ben to join her Heavenly Father. Ben was a loving husband to his wife, and extremely devoted to his children, friends, and religion. Ben supported his family driving a GET Bus beginning in 1956 and continued for thirty years until his retirement in 1986. Ben was voted Most Courteous Driver numerous years throughout his profession. Ben's lively sense of humor and zest for life was evident by the many lifelong friends that surrounded him. Ben took pleasure in singing and writing Gospel songs. He played various instruments including the guitar, piano, and harmonica. Ben was fond of gardening and took pride in growing the tomatoes for KC Steakhouse, family and friends. During the last three years of Ben's life, he found companionship in a dear friend, Thelma Langford. They enjoyed dancing at the Greenacres Senior Center and valued the time that they spent together. Ben found the Lord at the Pentecostal Calvary Tabernacle Church in 1953. Ben was a man of strong principles, morals, and was very dedicated to his faith. Ben looked forward to joining Dorothy, his deceased wife, in Heaven. Ben's family and friends that continue to love and honor him are his devoted and caring friend, Thelma Langford; son, Ronnie Hynds and partner, Becky Gordon of Hynds Catering; daughter, Charlotte Hynds Campbell and husband, Terry Campbell of KC Steakhouse; grandchildren, Ronnie Hynds and wife, Christy, Mike Hynds; Andrea Hynds and partner, Chris Hayes; and granddaughters by marriage, Devon and Shannon Campbell; great-grandchildren, Ashley, Austin, Aaron, Eric, and Tyler.
