Harris, age 93, passed away at her home in Mangum, Oklahoma on Thursday, August 22, 2002. Billye had been in poor health for sometime. Billye was born on January 22, 1909 in Atchley, Oklahoma to Henry B. and Fannie May (Jones) Deaton. She was a professional musician, playing the organ for silent movies, specifically a the Criterion Theater in Oklahoma City. She remained active in her craft after moving to Mangum in 1955. In this area she played at the First United Methodist Church for weddings, church services and funerals. Billye married Carl R. Land in 1929, he preceded her in death in 1950. In December of 1955 she married Ripley Harris and they made their home in Mangum, moving here from Oklahoma City. Mr. Harris also preceded her in death. Billye was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, a brother, and a sister. She is survived by a daughter, Sally Dennis and Robert Akers of Mangum, a son, Carl Land, of Fullerton, California. Also two grandsons, in California and one, Todd Dennis of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, other family members that are special include Forrest and Mildred Wright, and Hayden and Reverend Wendell Harris, all of Mangum. Numerous relatives and friends will miss her. A service for Billye D. Harris will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2002 at 10:00 AM at Greer Funeral Home Chapel in Mangum. Officiating will be Reverend John Coble and Reverend Wendell Harris. Interment will be in Riverside Cemetery. Arrangement are with Greer Funeral Home of Mangum, Oklahoma.
