Haley, Jess James

Jess James Haley, a retired farmer and owner of a custom harvesting 
business, died on March 12, 2007. He was 90. Jess was born in 
Oklahoma on April 11, 1916. The youngest of 8 children, he came to 
Bakersfield seeking opportunities with new bride (Dortha) and in-laws 
(John and Elsie Trammell) in 1937. Jess, a hard-working, friendly and 
honest man, was initially employed with Southern Pacific Railroad and 
later as a carpenter building homes in the Westchester area. During 
this time Jess and Dortha gave birth to two beautiful children, Jim 
and Pamela. In 1950 Jess built a home for his family in Arvin. It was 
there that he began farming and subsequently established a successful 
custom harvesting business. Jess retired in 1980 and spent many happy 
hours fishing, camping, building birdhouses, playing games 
(especially the marble game) and spending time with his family. Jess 
was a dedicated and faithful servant of his God Jehovah for 73 years. 
Jess is preceded in death by his son, Jim, and is survived by his 
beloved wife of 72 years Dortha; his daughter and son-in-law, Pamela 
and John Mitchell; grandchildren, Kevin Haley, Jana Haley, Deleasa, 
Kimberly Mitchell Uhlman, and Brad Mitchell; great-grandchildren, 
Hunter Haley, Mallory Haley, Morgan, Madison, and Mikaela Deleasa, 
Logan Uhlman and Sophie Mitchell. The family would like to 
acknowledge and thank Alternative Care and particularly Wanda Garner 
for her patience and sincere care. A memorial service will be held on 
Satruday, March 24th, at 3:00 p.m., at The Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's 
Witnesses, Terrace Congregation, 830 Wilson Road, Bakersfield, CA.
