Born in Oklahoma, Johnson, 74, lived in Sonoma for 37 years after moving from Boonville. Prior to that she lived in San Francisco. Her family said she was known as Sugar Arnold while working as a waitress during her first marriage. She worked for a time at the Sonoma State Hospital Cafe before owning and operating the Madrone Coffee Shop for about five years, until retiring in 1975. Johnson liked to do jigsaw puzzles. Her second husband, Robert Johnson of Sonoma, would mount and frame some of the puzzle pictures for family members. Johnson's daughter, Donna Bauer of Sonoma, said around Christmas, her mother ran a "come and get 'em" ad in the Sonoma paper. "One lady took all 30 of the framed puzzles," Bauer said. "Surprisingly, the woman turned out to be the owner of the Madrone Coffee Shop." Johnson made numerous charity donations. She also helped support children in other countries for about 15 years. "She was a generous, loving and caring person," her daughter said. In addition to her husband and daughter, Johnson is survived by her other daughters, Honey Snider of Vallejo and Carol Noblet of Kelseyville; sons, John Arnold and Jim Arnold, both of Sonoma; stepdaughter, Deanna Thomsen of San Carlos; stepson, Gordon Johnson in Louisiana; 13 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. No services were planned at her request. Memorial donations are preferred to favorite charities. Arrangements were made by Bates, Evans & Fehrensen Funeral Home in Sonoma. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Unknown County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/okstate.html
