Lon D. Johnston June 22, 1947 - March 1, 2007 Resident of Pinole Devoted husband, father, grandfather and friend, Lon passed away at his home in Pinole on March 1, 2007 from complications due to cancer. A native of Oklahoma, Lon was born to Clarence and Betty Jo Johnston. He grew up living in different parts of the U.S. and abroad as his father was a CWO for the United States Army. As the eldest son, Lon cared for his family while his father was away serving our country during the Korean and Vietnam wars. Throughout his youth, Lon maintained a number of interesting hobbies such as stamp & coin collecting and model building. With a keen, sharp mind he was very well versed in the math and sciences, chemistry was his forte. After college, he followed in his father's footsteps and enlisted in the U.S. Navy; he rose to 2nd Class Petty Officer/ Corpsman-Medic. Lon served a tour of duty in Vietnam. Upon exiting the service, he was employed by Chevron's Asphalt Division. As a self-made businessman and entrepreneur, Lon owned and operated Pinole Comic & Toy and Toyco companies for eight years. An avid woodworker and gardener, one would often find him outside the house trying to tame Mother Nature! Lon is survived by his wife, Cynthea and their son, Grayson; his previous wife, Cyndi and their two sons, Jeffrey and Jeremy; his two brothers, Rod and John; his two sisters, Dolores and Pam; two beautiful granddaughters, Ashlyn and Caitlyn; and a number of wonderful and talented nieces and nephews. He will be sorely missed by all of his family and friends. Lon will be buried March 13th, 2007 11 a.m., with full military honors at the Sacramento Valley VA National Cemetery in Dixon, CA, (707) 693-2460. Family and friends are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made at any Mechanics Bank Branch to a trust fund set up for Lon's youngest son, Grayson; the account is held in Cynthea Johnston's name, c/o Grayson Johnston's Educational Fund.
