(Bill) William (Bill) J. Keely Danville, CA - William (Bill) J. Keely, 79, a pioneer in the containership industry, passed away at home on Saturday, March 18, 2006, after a long battle with Non Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Born September 5, 1926, in Oklahoma and had lived in California for the last 21 years. Bill served his country in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He graduated from Kings Point Naval Academy as a 2nd Lt. and joined Waterman Steamship in 1946 at progressive deck officer positions including Master. He also attended Georgetown University and received a B.S. in Transportation and Marketing. He worked for American Export­- (Isbrandtsen) Company for 17 years, United States Lines for 10 years, and started his own shipping company - Combined Maritime Agencies and Jeco Shipping. Bill ended his first career with retirement from Hapag Lloyd as senior vice president of west coast services. Shortly after retirement, he joined Dr. C. C. Chen in running Madrigal Wan Hai Lines, Trans- Pacific Lines and other associated businesses. He is survived by his loving wife of 16 years, Sherry; two stepsons, Scott Prosser and wife, Barbara, of Danvilie and Mark Prosser of Walnut Creek; and two lovely grandchildren, Keely and Nicole; as well as many other special friends. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at 3:00 PM, Tuesday, March 28, at their home. In lieu of flowers, the family asked that donations be made to Burkitt's Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma, Hospice, or to the charity of your choice.
