All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== :: Tucson Citizen, Tucson AZ Reina Ramona Lucero A memorial service to celebrate the life of Ramona Lucero will be held at St. Francis in the Foothills, 4625 E. River Rd., Tucson, at 10:45 a.m., Saturday, February. 21. Reina Ramona Lucero, 53, died December 21, 2003, at City of Hope in Duarte, Calif., after a valiant effort to survive a bone marrow transplant. Born and raised in Oklahoma, she settled in Tucson in 1976, where she became a true Southwestern desert dweller and beloved member of our community. In 1991, she moved to Northern California, received a divinity degree at Graduate Theological Union, and was ordained in the United Methodist Church. She had a life-long interest in learning, particularly about women's political and social history. She was a pivotal figure in the women's movement of the late 80s and 90s, and especially in the growth of women's spiritual community. Ramona was passionate about life, loving with a big heart. She is survived by her husband, Alan Hinton of Suisun City, Calif.; daughter, Bree Chandler of Rochester, N.Y.; sisters, Pamela Lucero Johnson of Charleston, W.V., and Sherry Huffman of Hurricane, W.V.; brothers, Raymond (Buddy) Lucero of Kingston, Okla., and Vernon Lucero, of Dallas, Ga.; grandchildren, Kelsey and Cameron and Hinton of Bettendorf, Iowa; and Cora Hinton of Santa Rosa, Calif. At her request, Ramona's ashes will be scattered in the desert near Tucson.
