All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::McMullen FH--Columbus GA McCollum, Thomas Nelson Thomas Nelson McCollum, born February 27, 1927 to John and Bessie McCollum of Oklahoma, died January 1, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Hattie Watson McCollum, formerly of Robards, KY; son, Steve McCollum (Christy) of Ft. Worth, TX; daughter, Lisa Hutchinson (Robert) of Columbus, GA; four grandchildren; and four great grandchildren. Tom, formerly a member of Stine Road Baptist Church, was a man of great faith who loved his Lord and led his family by example. Through the years, he led many souls to Christ and helped build many churches. Tom served a short time in the Navy at the end of WWII. He had a long career with Beasley Construction Company, leading him all over the world. He was a superintendent for early warning system, which protected our country from the Soviet Union in the early 1950's. He participated in work at Camp David and naval stations in Washington state and Washington, D.C. He supervised the building of Voice of America Relay Station in Greenville, North Carolina. In 1962, Tom went to work for the United States Information Agency, serving first as a supervisor in Greenville, North Carolina and then transferred to Voice of America Relay Station in Delano, CA, where he finished his career and retired. A memorial service was held 2:00 PM Friday January 5, 2007 at McMullen Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Don Wilhite officiating, according to McMullen Funeral Home 3874 Gentian Blvd. Columbus, GA.
