Nystrom died June 5 at Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital after a long illness. She was 83. Born in 1917 in Oklahoma, she moved west with her first husband, Alvis Maxwell, who worked at the shipyards on Mare Island during World War II, said her sister, Sue Woodward of Santa Rosa. Nystrom worked for a short time before her daughter, Sharon Palmberg of Windsor, was born, but soon found out she enjoyed her life as a mother and housewife. After her first husband died, Nystrom raised Palmberg on her own for seven years before she met Victor Nystrom. Victor's sister lived upstairs from her and the two got to know each other when he came to visit his sister. The couple had one son together, David Nystrom of Fulton. One of Nystrom's favorite activities was gardening, and she always grew enough tomato plants to give to friends and family. "She'd take them to her doctor's office, and all her friends and family, they all got tomato plants," Woodward said. Her sister also cooked a mean leg of lamb, she said. Nystrom was active in the Luther Burbank Elementary School PTA when her children were young and was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Santa Rosa. She was a longtime member of the Order of the Eastern Star. In addition to her sister and two children, Nystrom is survived by a brother, M.L. Hare of Oklahoma City; six grandchildren and one great- granddaughter. Services will be Monday at 2 p.m. at Daniels Chapel of the Roses. Interment will be at the Santa Rosa Memorial Park Veterans Lawn. The family requests any remembrances made in her memory go to the Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital Foundation Cancer Research Fund, 1111 Sonoma Ave., Suite 302, Santa Rosa 95405. -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Unknown County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/okstate.html
