She was 83. She will be deeply missed by her family and many friends. Mary was born April 16, 1923, in Oklahoma, and moved to San Diego as a child. She attended Pt. Loma and San Diego High Schools and San Diego State. In 1942 she married Fred Stalder, a young flying cadet with the Army Air Corps, and after the end of World War II they settled in San Diego and raised three children, Claudia Lennard, Barbara Green and Steven Stalder. Mary was the consummate mother and homemaker, as well as a friend to many in the community. She was active in the Thursday Club, the San Diego Symphony Association, the Girl Scouts and the PTA. She was President of Dana Junior High PTA when son, Steve, was a student there. Her many hobbies and interests included sewing, knitting, reading, classical music and the arts, Dixieland Jazz, and was an avid bridge player. In 1967 Mary and Fred divorced and Mary later married Max Nelson, a widower from Pt. Loma, thereby acquiring three step-children - Charles Nelson, Marilyn Dreampeace and Sunshine Nelson. Mary and Max were fortunate to have many happy years together, during which they travelled extensively, eventually settling in Camarillo, California, where Max died in 1998. Following Max's death, Mary moved to Orange County where daughter, Barbara, has a home. Mary will be remembered by her three children as a wonderful mother and a sweet, beautiful lady with a great sense of humor and love of life. May she now rest in peace and live forever in our hearts and memories. She leaves behind three children, three step- children, nine grandchildren, seven step-grandchildren, and eight great-grandchildren. A private memorial service was held Saturday March 3, 2007 in Camarillo.
