She was born in Oklahoma and grew up in Arizona. She later moved to San Pablo, CA where she met her beloved husband of 30 years, Jack O'Keefe. They literally ran into each other TWICE, while Jack was shopping for socks at Sprouse Reitz. They were truly meant for each other. Ella was a very hospitable woman who loved antiques, especially her O'Keefe & Merritt stove. Ella cherished her family and loved entertaining them by hosting family gatherings, cooking large holiday dinners, and baking delicious desserts. She would begin preparing for these meals three days in advance then pack the leftovers for everyone to take home. No one ever left hungry! Ella also loved to garden. She had a green thumb and could make anything grow. She took a tiny twig, nurtured it, and it is now a towering redwood. Ella is survived by her devoted husband, Jack of San Pablo; daughter, Judy Newsom, of Fortuna, CA; sons-in-law, Richard Rakestraw of Pleasant Hill and Les Scott, of Paradise; four precious grandchildren, Kimberli Scott, Kristi Rakestraw, Brian and Ben Newsom; five adorable great-grandchildren; and many delightful nieces & nephews. Funeral services will be Tuesday, Nov. 1, at the Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Santa Rosa, 11:00am. Ella was loved tremendously and will be dearly missed.
