Straw Oliver of Eugene, who died March 10 of age-related causes. She was 85. Oliver was born June 28, 1918, in Oklahoma to Lemmuel and Bertha Shepard Ball. She was a resident of this area for 46 years and she enjoyed gardening, sewing, knitting, cooking and traveling. She also enjoyed playing bridge and was a member of a bridge club. She was an active member, and served as a Sunday school teacher, at Fairfield Baptist Church in Eugene, where she enjoyed participating in church activities. Survivors include two sons, Franklin of Roseburg and Kenneth of Sumter, S.C.; a daughter, Ruth Newton of Sublimity; two step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Tuesday's service will be held at 2 p.m. at Rest-Haven Memorial Park in Eugene. Buell Funeral Chapel in Springfield is in charge of arrangements.
