All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Greenlawn Memorial Park--Bakersfield CA Popejoy, William "Tom" Funeral services for Tom Popejoy will be held at First Free Will Baptist Church (2400 E. California Avenue) on Wednesday morning, November 1, 2006 at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenlawn Cemetery (3700 River Blvd.) Tom went to Heaven to join his loving wife of 56 years, Ruth, who preceded him in death in August of 2000. He leaves behind those to remember him, his family, son and daughter- in-law, Joe and Brenda Popejoy; son and daughter-in-law, Jerold and Dean Popejoy; daughter and son-in-law, Renee and Don McQueen; grandchildren, Eric, Lacey, Joshua, Jillian, Jordon, Janelle and Jared; five great granddaughters; his two beloved and faithful dogs, Blitz and Baby; one brother and one sister in Oklahoma as well as many more dear friends. Born in Oklahoma, he served in the Army during WWII. He was a POW and received 2 Purple Hearts and 3 Bronze Stars. Tom was a member of the VFW. He came to Kern County with his wife and son in 1950. Tom was a member of the First Free Will Baptist Church for over 50 years, serving as a Deacon and known to all the children as "the gum man". His favorite past time was fishing, he would rather fish than eat or sleep. His nick-name given to him during his Mesa Marin years of "catfish" fit him! The stories he would tell to anyone that would listen, would leave you feeling good. Special appreciation to all the ministers, members of the church, his neighbors and to all the Hoffmann Hospice staff. Especially his nurses and Elizabeth who cared for Tom as well as his family. Thank you to all the friends, support and prayers. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Bethel Christian School or Hoffmann Hospice.
