Ernest George Powell

Ernest George Powell, 92, of Amarillo, died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999.

Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Friday in Claude Cemetery in Claude 
with Wendell Leach of Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church officiating. 
Arrangements are by N.S. Griggs & Sons Funeral Directors, 2615 Paramount 
Blvd.

Mr. Powell was born in Indian Territory in Oklahoma. He was a farmer 
southeast of Amarillo for most of his life. He was a 52-year member of 
Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church.

He married Nadine Stalcup in 1934 at Claude. He was preceded in death by 
his wife in March and by a son, Lacy Wade, in 1937.

Survivors include a daughter, Doris Maxwell of Fort Worth; two sons, 
George Powell of Panhandle and the Rev. Jim Powell of Prague, Okla.; seven 
grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The family suggests memorials be to Tenth Avenue United Methodist Church 
or Palo Duro Nursing Home in Claude.
