All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== LILLY PHILLIPS Published on September 11, 1994 The Santa Rosa Press Democratt Memorial services have been held for Lilly May Phillips, who died in her sleep last Saturday at her Santa Rosa home. She was 93. Phillips lived in Sonoma County for 39 years. Born in Oklahoma, she moved to California in the early 1920s after marrying Hestus P. Phillips, a railroad employee for Southern Pacific. They lived in Porterville, Willits and Marin County. Phillips was a nurse assistant at various hospitals. During World War II, she worked in Bay Area shipyards. Phillips also worked as a seamstress and established a drapery shop in Tiburon in the early 1950s before moving to Santa Rosa in 1955. "She was an excellent cook," added her granddaughter, Barbara Yeates of Santa Rosa. "She used to can up a storm when she was physically able. She canned up anything that grew on a tree or out of the ground." She was a member of the Alpine Improvement Club in the Alpine Valley area near Santa Rosa. Survivors include her son, Allen J. Phillips of Santa Rosa; sister, Dorothy Morrison of Madeville, La.; eight grandchildren; 23 greatgrandchildren; and two great-great grandchildren.
