All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== The Bakersfield Californian 25 February 2004 JOY NICKELL CAMPBELL RESTINE "GRANNY" Joy Nickell Campbell Restine walked-on on February 22, 2004, in her home at Joe & Joy's Place, Bakersfield. She was born in Oklahoma on November 16, 1934, and moved to California in 1947 with her parents, Jesse and Sibyl Nickell, older brother, Jesse Nickell, Jr., and younger sister, JoAnn Hopkins. After graduating from Arvin High School she married J. L. Campbell and they raised their three children, Jeff, Delora, and John Campbell, while living in the Lamont area. In 1978 J. L. passed away and several years later she married Joe Restine. She loved taking care of her Paint horses, maintaining her flower garden, learning the Potawatomi language as a tribal member of the Citizen Band Potawatomi, researching her Nickell ancestry, and visiting with her family. She was very proud of her talent in interior decorating and being a descendant of Jim Thorpe, All-American. Joy is survived by her husband, mother, brother, sister, 3 children, 14 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, several in-laws, nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, 2 stepchildren, and 5 stepgrandchildren. Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 26, 2004, 1:00 p.m. at Hopson-Anspach Family Mortuary-Lamont. Burial following at South Kern Cemetery/Arvin.
