She lived a long, happy life and was a great inspiration to everyone who was fortunate enough to have known her. Ethel was born and raised in Oklahoma along with her 4 brothers, John, Lynn, Bill and Gip and her 3 sisters, Opal, Maxie and Georgie Mae. After marrying she became the dedicated wife of a hard working farmer, Perry White. Together they had seven children, Mary, Roland, Dimple, Eddie Martin, Larry, Troy and Cathy. In 1958, with the news an abundance of jobs, they moved to Bakersfield. Ethel became a licensed day care provider and quickly became known as "Gramma" to many children. After retiring she spent time volunteering for Senior Citizens Services and caring for her 14 grandchildren, Fred, Steve, Zachary, Chase, Randy, Ben, Stacy, Whitney, Laurel, Lucas, Jason, Josh, Docia, Chelsi and 14 great-grandchildren. She also loved tending to her beautiful flower garden, dancing to her favorite country song, and was envied by everyone for her expertise in both. She was an accomplished cook and never missed whipping up a full-blown feast every Thanksgiving. But her most favorite times were hosting the annual White family reunion and spending hours singing to guitars, yodeling and playing the harmonica. Ethel was preceded in death by two loving husbands, Perry White, father of their children and Chuck Sutterfield an accomplished carpenter and her fun-loving dance partner. She also greatly grieved for her deceased, 2 year old son, Eddie Martin and her grandson, Josh Lancaster a decorated Deputy Sheriff. Ethel was an exceptional woman who possessed a loving heart that cared for everyone she met and will be forever remembered and missed by her many friends and relatives. Services will be conducted by Pastor Gary Story at Basham Funeral Care (3312 Niles Street) on Tuesday morning, November 14, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. followed by a brief service at Hillcrest Memorial Park. Viewing will be held on Monday evening, November 13, 2006 from 5:00-8:00 p.m. Ethel's grandsons are honored to be providing pall bearing services.
