All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== Tennessee Martha Smith CLARENDON - Tennessee "Tennie" Smith, 94, died Monday, Dec. 21, 1998. Services will be at 3 p.m. today in First Baptist Church with the Rev. Truman Ledbetter, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in Citizens Cemetery in Clarendon by Myers-Long Funeral Directors of Silverton. Mrs. Smith was born in Indian Territory. She attended Centerview High School where she was on the state championship basketball team. She was state champion in singles and doubles tennis. She moved to Clarendon from Prague, Okla., in 1925. She attended San Jacinto School of Beauty Culture and worked as a beautician for many years. For 70 years, she was a member of First Baptist Church and was treasurer for the Rebecca Sunday School class for many years. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Clarendon Senior Citizens. She married Bert Smith in 1923 at Prague. She was preceded in death by her husband in 1951, by a son, Bert Smith Jr., in 1973 and by two daughters, Wanda Marie Smith in 1927 and Harlene Smith Phillips in 1980. Survivors include a son, Donald R. Smith of Clarendon; two sisters, Edith Hart of Konawa, Okla., and Pearl Eanes of Granbury; 13 grandchildren; 27 greatgrandchildren; and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
