All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ========================================================================== JAY WOOD Published on March 31, 2000 The Santa Rosa Press Democratt In 1947, Jay and Doris Wood exchanged marriage vows that included the phrase, "In sickness and in health." In 1978, Doris entered a convalescent hospital in Petaluma, where she would spend the next 12 years of her life, until her death in 1990. Her husband never forgot those early vows. "My father went to the hospital and fed my mother lunch and dinner every day," daughter Dorisann Gallegos said. "He never missed a meal." Jay T. Wood died March 27 in Petaluma. He was 80. Wood was born in Oklahoma in 1920. At the age of 12, he came to Sonoma County, where he spent the rest of his life. During World War II, Wood served in the Army Air Corps, and spent extensive time in Europe, Gallegos said. He contracted diphtheria, and recovered in an English hospital. Wood worked for years as a machinist at Kresky Manufacturing in Petaluma, and later at Stero Co. He was an avid golfer, hunter and fisherman. In addition to his daughter, Dorisann, and her husband, Marcus Gallegos of Petaluma, Wood is survived by a son, Steven, and daughter-in-law Nancy Wood, both of Petaluma, brother Charles Wood of Lakeport, and sister Margie Ingerson of Cotati. He also leaves behind three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at Parent-Sorensen Mortuary and Crematory, Magnolia Avenue and Keokuk Street in Petaluma.
