Wimbish 2/15/1914 2/12/2003 Arvin Funeral Home will conduct funeral services at Arvin Congregational Church on Friday, February 14, 2003, at 1 p.m., for Velia M. Wimbish, age 88, who passed away February 12, in Bakersfield. Interment will follow at South Kern Cemetery District, Arvin. Mrs. Wimbish was born February 15, 1914, to Ress and Lydia Ruth in Ft. Smith, Arkansas. She grew up and attended school in Oklahoma. She and L.J. Wimbish were married in Oklahoma and he preceded her in death. She moved to Arvin in 1948 and began working in the fields. She later worked as a housekeeper for many Arvin residents. She was employed as a housekeeper and later became manager of the Shamrock Hotel in Arvin. She retired in 1978 after working for 9 years for Bear Mountain Winery. She served as babysitter for the nursery children at the Congregational Church and also baby-sat for former pastor Rev. John Martins children. She was active in the Arvin Senior Citizens Group traveling by bus for luncheons and other activities. She loved going places and driving her little red car. She also loved cooking and will be fondly remembered for her apple pies and stuffed potatoes. She loved being with people and was the life of the party. She is survived by her son, Mac Wimbish and wife, Dorothy of Bakersfield; daughter, Faye Holbert and husband, Joe of Arvin; brothers, Robert Ruth (her twin) and Leo Ruth, both of Bakersfield; sister, Daisy Davis of Oregon; grandchildren, Rick Wimbish and wife Leea, Tina Allen and husband, Bryan, Cindy Agundez and husband, Adrian, Chris Walkowiak and husband, Jerry, Ronnie Holbert and wife, Jennifer; and 8 great-grandchildren. Her parents and 8 siblings preceded her in death.
