She was 93. Walker died peacefully on June 21 of natural causes. The list of Southern Californian organizations that have benefited from Hazel Walker's involvement is extensive and a testament to her natural enthusiasm, charisma and pragmatism. Whether she was obtaining federal funds for community programs or helping seniors through her tireless efforts for organizations like Burbank Meals on Wheels, Hazel Walker served as an inspiration to all around her. Her priceless contributions of time and energy were recognized over four decades in a number of ways. In 1974, Hazel received an award from the Burbank Noon Lions Club for "Outstanding and Unselfish Service to the Burbank Community." In 1975, she received "The Book of Golden Deeds" from the Verdugo Hills Exchange Club. In 1977 the Burbank City Council designated the Joslyn Adult Center Auditorium to be "The Hazel Walker Auditorium." "Hazel held the communities around her together like no one else. She showed us that mid-West virtues like kindness and generosity can thrive in big cities like Los Angeles when the right person is championing them." Said Jack O'Neil. Born and raised in Oklahoma, Hazel married Kenneth Walker in 1933 and moved to California three years later. In addition to helping raise a daughter Kennie Jo and son Timothy, she worked for the City of Burbank for 19 years from 1957 on.
