All rights reserved. http://www.usgwarchives.net/copyright.htm ===================================================================== ::Cremation CARRIE BAKER Published on February 28, 1997 The Santa Rosa Press Democrat Carrie Bryant Baker, who enlisted in the Coast Guard after graduating from Santa Rosa High School, was killed along with her husband, Caleb Baker, in an auto accident near Fairfax, Okla., Feb. 20. The Bakers, both 21, were killed when their car was broadsided by a truck in a highway intersection. They were on leave from Astoria, Ore., and visiting Caleb Baker's family in Fairfax. Rita Baker, sister of Baker's husband, survived the accident. She was released from a hospital Thursday. Born in Burlingame, Carrie Baker moved to Santa Rosa when she was 4 years old. Her mother, Patricia Bryant of Windsor, said she chose the Coast Guard for travel as well as a chance to serve on boats. She and her husband were serving with the Coast Guard group at Astoria. They lived in Hammond, Ore. A Petty Officer 3rd Class, she had been in the service since age 18. She was assigned to the Coast Guard Cutter Cowslip at Astoria. Baker enjoyed music, singing and her family. Besides her mother, Baker is survived by her father, Richard Bryant of Rapid City, S.D.; brother, Robert Morales of Windsor, and Harley Bryant of Rapid City, S.D.; and her grandmothers, Beth Wood of Windsor, and Betty Jones of Idaho. A memorial service with full military honors will be 2 p.m. today at the Two Rock Coast Guard Base in Petaluma. Baker's ashes will be scattered under the Golden Gate Bridge.
