He was the son of George Edmond and Elsie Bartley. Jessie was raised near Mannford and attended school there. Upon completion of his schooling, Jess began working on various farms in the Mannford area. He was married to Alma Kay Kinney in Sapulpa, on Dec. 17, 1955. The couple established their home south of Cleveland. They had three children, Edmond, Eldon and Vivian. Jess worked at the Tulsa Stockyard for many years and then for nearly ten years as a lead man/foreman for American Smelting and Refining. Later, he accepted employment with Miller Exchangers in Sand Springs, retiring for medical reasons in March 1990. Jess loved spending time outdoors. He especially enjoyed fishing, hunting and gardening. Jess passed away on Wed., April 18, 2001 at the St. John Medical Center in Tulsa at the age of seventy-two years, ten months and six days. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Carl Bartley and two sisters, Alice Primm and Avo Brashers. Jess is survived by his wife, Alma Kay Bartley, of the home; two sons, Edmond Eugene Bartley, Jennings; Eldon Earl and his wife Pam Bartley, Jennings; a daughter Vivian Kay and her husband Cliff Green, Jennings; five grandchildren, Jesse Wade Bartley, Jennings; Shawna Mariah Green, Jennings; Erin Elizabeth Bartley, Jennings; Jena Kay Green, Jennings; step-granddaughter, Alisha and Bobby Perigo, Hominy; step-brother, J. D. Talley, Mannford; and a step-sister, Eva Lee Riley, Coweta. Funeral services were held Mon., April 23, 2001 at the Chapel of the Chapman-Black Funeral Home with Rev. Bobby Beck and Rev. J. W. Wright officiating.
