Powell Memorial Cemetery--Hominy OK The Hominy News - Progress Wednesday, April 3, 2002 Page 5 Alene "Lucy" Brooks Alene "Lucy" Brooks, a resident of Hominy was born June 24, 1926 in Fairfax to Buford and Nona Effie (Jones) Self. Alene grew up and attended schools in the area between Pawhuska and Hominy. Alene was united to her husband Harold Willis and was his caretaker until his death. Alene worked in the restaurant business in Pawhuska waiting tables at the Manhattan café as well as Greeks. In the early 1960's Alene moved to Hominy and she later started working at the Chuckwagon Café. Alene always had strong ties with her children, grandchildren and family. Alene loved sewing, gardening as well as a passion to take care of her chickens. Alene also loved to cook; and if you were to go and see her you would definitely leave with a full stomach. She was preceded in death by her parents, sister Irene Comer and a great great granddaughter Talysa Hoehne. Alene passed away March 29, 2002 at her home in Hominy at the age of seventy-five years and nine months and five days. Alene is survived by her children, Edgar Wayne and wife Shirley Waller of Hominy; Glen Robert and wife Deann Edwards of Harvey, Louisiana; George Ray and wife Tina Waller of Hominy; and Martha Alene and husband George White of Wynona; two sisters Louis Ledbetter of Hominy and Lucille Tharp of Tulsa; two brothers Albert Self of Blackwell and J. R. Self of Hominy; eight grandchildren, nineteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Services were held Sat. March 30, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. in the Chapman- Black Chapel with Dr. Larry Wilson officiating the services interment will be private family services in the A. J. Powell Memorial Cemetery under the direction of Chapman-Black Funeral Home, Inc. of Cleveland.
