Burton Date: 2 May 2003 12:35 PM GMT Surnames: BURTON, COLLINS, SWIFT, ANTHONY, RABY, BARRETT, HENSHALL, REEB, LONG, PARKER, ALLISON, HERRIN from 4-25-2003 Examiner Enterprise Mrs. Bessie Mae (Collins) (Swift) Burton, 93, widow of the late William Andrew "Andy" Burton, died at 5:05 p.m. on Tuesday in Bartlesville. Funeral services for Mrs. Burton were held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday at the graveside in the Ethel Reece Cemetery, Barnsdall, Okla. The Rev. M. E. Anthony, Jr. was the officiant. Committal prayers and interment were directed by The Arnold Moore -Barnsdall Funeral Home. Bessie Mae Collins was born on March 14, 1910 in West Plains, Missouri. She was the daughter of the late Jefferson and Nancy Elizabeth (Raby) Collins. During her youth, she came to Bigheart, Okla. where she was reared and received her education. She and Huskal Dean "Huck" Swift were married in Tulsa, Okla. in 1929 and they made their home in Barnsdall. Mr. Swift was an employee of Frank Phillips and was a cattle foreman. When Woolaroc was founded, Mr. Swift continued his association with Mr. Phillips. He was retired in 1974 and he preceded her in death on December 10, 1975 in Bartlesville. She and William Andrew "Andy" Burton were married on June 7, 1965 at Pawhuska, Okla. and they made their home in Barnsdall, Okla. Mr. Burton preceded her in death on June 29, 1996 in Barnsdall and since that time, Mrs. Burton has continued living in Barnsdall in retirement. She was a member of the Barnsdall, Free Will Baptist Church and attended the House of Prayer. Surviving are her two daughters, Mrs. Imadean Barrett, Arlington, Texas and Ms. Peggy Swift, Barnsdall, Okla.; four sons, Jimmy Arthur Swift, and wife, Ella, Jack Wesley Swift, and wife, Janice, Lloyd Eugene Swift and wife, Judy, and Eddie Lee "Ed" Swift and wife, Alice, all of Barnsdall, Okla. ; 18 grandchildren; 46 great- grandchildren and 27 great-great-grandchildren. In addition to her father, mother and her husband, she was preceded in death by four daughters, Mrs. Betty Henshall, Mrs. Margie Reeb, Mrs. Maxine Long and Mrs. Carol Parker; four grandchildren; a great grandchild; a brother, Ira Collins and two sisters, Mrs. Lavada Allison and Mrs. Stella Jane Herrin. --------------------------------------------------------------------- Return to Osage County Archives: http://www.usgwarchives.net/ok/osage/osage.htm
